Malda town is a gateway of North-Eastern India. The “Government Teachers’ Training College, Malda” is situated at the heart of the town with its beautiful campus beside the well known “Model Madrasah” and behind the “Zilla School”. It is about 3 kms away from Malda Railway station.
The College was established in 1964 with affiliation under the University of North Bengal. Now it is the only Govt. College affiliated to the University of Gour Banga catering to the needs of fresher’s (71 seats) and deputed (71 seats) students aspiring for B.Ed. diploma of one year duration. It also has two prestigious study centres of “Indira Gandhi National Open University” which offers courses in different levels of Science, Arts, Management etc. Those centres are unique in their exceptionally large number of students’ enrolment in comparison to other study centres in the District.
The college has only one boys’ hostel with a capacity of 70 students. Many co-curricular activities which are also a part of curriculum are held in the college premises. Besides, the annual sport of this college is a colorful event which includes many indoor and outdoor events. The library has a very rich collection of reference books and journals.
